The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department Law Enforcement Division administers several facets of the Sheriff’s Department including records management, Concealed Weapon Permits and Renewals, and Service of Process.

Accident, Complaint reports,Concealed Weapons Permits and renewals are available in the Law Enforcement Office. Concealed Weapons Permits can be downloaded on this website. Click on Concealed Carry Application. In order to obtain a Concealed Weapons Permit, the applicant must first complete a concealed weapons safety course as well as a concealed weapons permit application. A $75.00 fee for background check and processing is due at the time of application along with a copy of your WV Driver’s License. Upon completion of the investigation and if a license to carry a concealed pistol/revolver is approved and issued, the applicant will pay to the Sheriff an additional $25.00 fee to the WV State Police..

When the application process is complete, your concealed carry permit will be mailed to you VIA; US Mail, to alleviate yourself making the trip back to the Tax Office for pick up. A laminated, wallet-size photo ID version of your permit may also be purchased at an additional cost of $10.00. Total purchase of permit and renewal is $100.00 without photo ID or $110.00 with photo ID. Concealed Weapon renewals and applications are processed at the Sheriff’s Tax office, located on the first floor of the old courthouse. The Tax Office may be reached by telephone at (304)586-0204
